The InterLock
Tiling System. Built to Perform.

A modern, all-weather modular sports surface engineered for tennis, netball, basketball, futsal and multi-purpose courts — installed by NineCourts with the same structural discipline applied to every court, fence and lighting project we complete.

The System

Why the InterLock Tiling System?

InterLock Tile multi-purpose court — finished installation in a tree-lined garden setting
Project · Residential Multi-Purpose Court

The InterLock Tiling System is a modular, self-draining sports surface engineered to perform reliably in both indoor and outdoor environments. Each tile is built with a multi-directional flex design that allows controlled movement underfoot — reducing strain on joints while maintaining a stable, predictable playing surface.

The open-grid construction promotes airflow beneath the surface, keeping playing temperatures noticeably lower than conventional asphalt or concrete courts. Water drains freely through the system, allowing play to resume immediately after rain.

The system is manufactured locally in South Africa using high-grade LLDPE polymer, and is engineered for South African outdoor conditions. NineCourts approaches every InterLock installation with the same discipline applied to our sports infrastructure work — structural precision, quality-controlled materials, clean detailing, and a long-term performance focus.

Backed by a 15-year warranty against UV degradation and manufacturing defects and an expected service life of up to 20 years under normal use.

True Ball Bounce

Engineered for consistent, reliable performance across tennis, netball, basketball and futsal — true and predictable ball response on every shot.

All-Weather Surface

High-grip, anti-slip tile texture performs in dry and wet conditions. Free drainage means courts are playable again within minutes of rainfall.

Reduced Joint Impact

Multi-directional flex design absorbs impact and reduces strain on knees, ankles and lower back — particularly important on high-use facilities.

Cooler Underfoot

Open-grid construction promotes airflow beneath the surface, keeping the court significantly cooler than asphalt or concrete in direct sun.

UV-Stabilised & Durable

Manufactured in high-grade LLDPE polymer. Resistant to UV exposure and weathering — will not crack, fade, or deteriorate like traditional acrylic courts.

Low Maintenance

Routine cleaning with a hose or blower. No full surface repainting required — only specific painted markings or logos may need refreshing over time.

Fully Modular

Tiles can be lifted, replaced, or relocated if required. Damage is repaired by swapping individual tiles rather than resurfacing the entire court.

Locally Manufactured

Produced in South Africa for South African conditions — supported by a 15-year warranty and a proven 20-year expected service life.

Specification & Finish

Each NineCourts InterLock installation is tailored to the venue, the sporting codes in use, and the client's branding requirements — without compromising the structural and performance standards of the system.

Material & Construction

High-Grade LLDPE Polymer

Modular tiles manufactured locally in South Africa using high-grade Linear Low-Density Polyethylene. Multi-directional flex design with open-grid construction for free drainage and airflow beneath the surface.

Colour & Layout

Wide Selection of Combinations

Choose from a wide range of tile colours to match facility branding or estate aesthetics. Multi-court layouts with multiple sports lines can be integrated into a single court footprint.

Markings & Game Lines

Integrated Court Markings

Custom game lines integrated directly into the tile system rather than painted on top — lines do not wear, fade, or require repainting over the life of the installation.

Branding & Logos

Optional Logo Printing

Custom logos and centre-court branding can be incorporated up to 3m × 2m, subject to design approval. Ideal for clubs, schools, sponsors and corporate facilities.

How We Work

Installation Methodology

On Site · NineCourts Installation Team

NineCourts executes every InterLock installation in strict, sequential phases. Proper base preparation is the single most important factor in long-term performance — and we never compromise on it.

From site inspection and ground compaction through to the structural base, tile installation, and the final perimeter ramp system — every stage is handled by our own crews, in sequence, with no shortcuts.

01

Site Preparation

Site inspection and level verification. Clearing of vegetation and unsuitable material. Excavation, shaping, and ground compaction to a true and even profile using plate compactors and rammers.

02

Base & Sub-Base

Construction of a structural concrete or asphalt base with steel mesh reinforcement, correct fall for drainage, and a damp-proof membrane where required. Existing courts in poor condition receive the necessary remedial preparation before tiles are laid.

03

Tile Installation

Modular tiles installed across the prepared base using the InterLock connection system. Custom game lines, multi-sport markings, and any approved logo work are integrated as the surface is laid down.

04

Perimeter & Handover

Professionally installed perimeter ramp system locks the surface in place — providing edge restraint, eliminating trip hazards, and delivering a clean architectural finish. Final inspection and client walkthrough on completion.

⚠ Important — Base Preparation The InterLock Tiling System can be installed over existing asphalt or concrete bases — but only where those bases are sound. Where existing courts are cracked, settled, or in poor condition, NineCourts will carry out the necessary remedial preparation. Proper groundwork is critical to a stable, long-lasting installation, and we will not lay tiles over a compromised base.
